how do websites sell digital classical music when it isn’t theirs and the composer has passed on?

I was looking at a site where they were selling "claire de lune" digital download. How do they take someone elses work and sell it as if it were their own? link is below

http://www.virtualsheetmusic.com/LookInside/Lune.html

Easy, because Debussy died in 1918, the copyright on his works has expired already. The copyright generally ends 70 years after the original author’s death. Once the copyright expires, the work is in the public domain which means it belongs to everyone. So anyone could transcribe and sell it legally. The fee is for the work done creating and distributing the transcription of the work.

So, you wouldn’t be able to sell transcriptions or arrangements of, say, Rachmaninoff’s works legally yet because he died in 1943. The copyright for his works will expire in 2013. (Actually, the copyright law changed several times, complicating things. So any works that he composed before 1923 are already in the public domain. Works composed after 1923 will come into the public domain at the end of 2013.)

Is there a vending machine for MP3, Ipod, or digital dowloads?

Does anyone know of a company that makes a vending machine that can be used to download digital music. For example: you go to the mall with your Ipod and can plug it into a type of "vending machine" where you can pick music and download it on the spot. I bet it would be a real money maker. particularily for those kids that don’t have computers but want MP3 players. Or for the person who wants to mix up his songs on his lunch break.
I want in before it hits big.

i have seen something like that at some music stores in certain malls but with a limited amount of mp3 players supported

I looking for a website developler who can build and possibly host a website whereas I can sell music via down

I looking for a website developler who can build and possibly host a website whereas I can sell music via digital download..I am on a limited income so I need a reputable firm that is willing to allow a monthly payment schedule..I would also need help in legally securing the music licenses from the record labels. I want to be able to accept major credit cards and Paypal.

WHY? they are a dime a dozen.

Is there a way to download non-compressed digital music?

If there exists such a file type

The closest you’ll get to that would be a .WAV file, and they’re quite large… Each song would be 20 to 30 megs, instead of 4 megs with an MP3. Finding one online would be tricky, since they’re so bulky… I seriously doubt it. Even on torrent sites, when downloading an album, it isn’t a disc image, but instead all of the songs are pre-ripped as MP3s. The best you’ll be able to do is get a copy of the CD, then use Exact Audio Copy ( http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/ ) to convert the tracks directly to uncompressed WAV files. If you need more help, feel free to email or IM me!

can you download music from a digital cable music channel?

onto your computer and then burn a cd?

Sort of. Basicly what you’ll need to do is run the audio output from your TV/Cable box to the Mic jack on your sound card. From there it’s just a matter of hitting record when a song you want to record comes on.

I have never played with audio recording but I’m sure you can find some good sofware on the net if you don’t already have some that came with your sound card.

Is downloading music and movies just like using a digital public library?

Tom, somebody has compensated the author to be able to upload it, so isn’t that the same as a library?

there are places that you can do that for free like movies and music but my son says that you have to know the gigsabites to do the movies or something to that effect the music one i use is beemp3.com-freemusic , the ones that have the movies that you can download you pay for them so that is not like a library that is a cheaper way of collecting movies with the free movies you have to be careful that you know what you are doing you could be downloading a virus so i dont do that .
